(Hopefully with this post, I can invoke the attention of MediacomChad!!)
I live in Northern Indiana... (North Webster, IN to be precise). Over the past few days, we've been experiencing horrendous slowdowns and flat-out connection losses. We have one of the latest and highest-rated Motorola Surfboard modems.. fresh from newegg.com. It was purchased and installed about a month ago. Once it was installed, our speeds and connection improved dramatically (DOC-SIS 2.0 -> 3.0; yay!)
Over the past 3-4 days, our internet speeds have dropped from the normally advertised 30 mbit download speeds down to a measly 3 mbit/sec. Numerous sudden connection drops, etc. I've checked and re-checked the physical incoming connection, and all coaxial ends are tight and free of oxidation. I contacted mediacom tech support who scheduled someone to come out to "check the lines", regarding their concerns that the sudden change in temperature and barometric pressure; that the lines coming from the pole to our house (or further "downstream" from us) have been shrinking back from their respective physical coaxial connections.
This drastic slow-down to "DSL speeds" has cost me hours if not days of private client computer work and job income due to the lost speeds / download times of security updates, Linux distros, program updates, etc.
This also amounts to me paying full price for services which are not being provided on a consistent basis -- unlike my bill payments which ARE. This is not the first time that I (as a customer of 10+ years) have experienced these vaguely-explained losses of speed and / complete service outages during changes in seasons / temperatures / barometric pressure. I've been a loyal customer of Mediacom since (2003??) -- The point is, I don't normally complain.. but this is becoming downright ridiculous. I depend on my internet connection for not only my family's media consumption, but also for a fair chunk of my income in the form of private computer consultation, remote I.T. Support sessions.
I would love to know (if Mediacom knows) why my connection speeds and overall connection integrity become completely unreliable during seasonal / temperature changes, and what can (or will) be done to alleviate these repeated lapses in service reliability.
Thanks!
