I have a couple of questions I hope someone can answer.
1. Why does a Mediacom bill show two charges for Local Taxes and two for State Taxes?
Shouldn't these charges be listed on one line, as a total, instead of listed on two separate lines, as two separate charges? (e.g. Local Sales Tax .03 and *Local Sales Tax .18, State Sales Tax .04 and *State Sales Tax .22...) Why not just write on the Bill... Local Sales Tax .21 and State Sales Tax .26? Unless Mediacom is charging Local and State Sales Tax for both Missouri and IOWA, (where Mediacom is located)? Wouldn't it be illegal to bill both state and local taxes for IOWA to people who don't live in IOWA? Also, billing twice for local and state taxes in Missouri is probably illegal, too (double taxation without representation?)?
2. I know that some companies such as AT&T, Comcast (internetessentials.com), and a few others, offer discount internet rates for people who are on fixed-income, low-income, Social Security Disability (SSD & SSI) and Elderly, or those who have children that participate in the free school meal programs (everyoneon.org Connect2Compete).
I see from the following link that Mediacom's also participates in low-income service that is suppose to be available in Missouri. (cheapinternet.com/low-income-internet/mediacom) Does Mediacom have a webpage where a person can learn the terms and apply for, or order, this service online?
Lastly, I would like to keep the current Internet speed and unlimited data, but discontinue the television reception part of the package, and go back to antenna for tv, since I do not watch much television. What are some special deals/prices that will allow me to do this? I'm not looking for long-term contracts.
One last thing. If anyone here knows of a less expensive alternative to Mediacom Internet I would love to hear your opinions and the alternatives. Thanks!
