I just got a notice that I can upgrade my modem for free. After I did that I received a special offer to also upgrade my speeds to 100 Mbps for only $5 more per month. That sounds really good even though it will only be for 12 months. The problem is the fine print:
*Discounted price is for 12 months beginning at installation. Mediacom may increase monthly price if it increases or adds to the standard rates for services, equipment and other items corresponding to those in the offer, so long as the percentage discount from standard prices represented by the initial offer price is maintained during the initial 12 months of service. After 12 months Mediacom may elect at any time to charge you its standard rates in effect from time to time. You must obtain at your expense any equipment or items not supplied by Mediacom needed to use offered services. Price does not include taxes, franchise fees and other governmental charges. Download and upload speeds are not guaranteed and may vary. Includes Mediacom Online® Prime residential service plan with a usage allowance of up to 250 Gigabytes per monthly billing period. Excess usage will result in additional charges of $10 for every increment of up to 50 additional Gigabytes used. For example, if usage exceeded the allowance by 51 Gigabytes, the additional charge would be $20. Usage allowances are subject to change at any time. For more information, see "Additional Terms and Conditions-Monthly Usage Allowance" at www.mediacomcable.com
Why would I want to increase speed for $5 but lose usage? I currently am allowed 350 Gigabytes a month.
