I was going to try to ask this on Mediacom's support forum, however I never got the email activation no matter how many times I requested it be sent to me (checked both spam and junk boxes to no avail).
Anyways, I'm hoping someone can help me before I have to call in for help (I normally don't do that first as I haven't had much luck with Mediacom support as a residential customer and had always had better luck going through the forums).
So, new Mediacom Business customer, needed a static IP and yesterday was emailed the information and was told it was available for immediate use. So I log into my router, switch from dynamic to static, plug in the information provide (Gateway, IP Address, Subnet Mask, Primary DNS, Secondary DNS) then reboot the router and modem. Upon the completion of the reboots I'm unable to access the internet, I get the following error....
"Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)"
Thinking it's a DNS issue thing I try Google's public DNS and that doesn't work either. So I switch it back from static to dynamic and wallah! I have internet again.
Now I haven't had to deal with a static since I initially set it up with Froniter (which was years ago) so I'm wondering if I'm missing some step.
Thanks,
↧
