OK - I've tried with this Hitron modem since yesterday, I really have. But it's just not working. Every other page I try to go to gives an error like this:
The page isn't redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.
And the URL goes into an insane URL loop like this:
www.amazon.com/s/x.x.x.1?hostIpAddr=x.x.x.16&blockReason=svrDown&blockedUrl=www.amazon.com/s/x.x.x.1?hostIpAddr=x.x.x.16&blockReason=svrDown&blockedUrl=www.amazon.com/s/x.x.x.1?hostIpAddr=x.x.x.16&blockReason=svrDown&blockedUrl=www.amazon.com/s/x.x.x.1?hostIpAddr=x.x.x.16&blockReason=svrDown&blockedUrl=www.amazon.com/s/x.x.x.1?hostIpAddr=x.x.x.16&blockReason=svrDown&blockedUrl=www.amazon.com/s/x.x.x.1?hostIpAddr=x.x.x.16&blockReason=svrDown&blockedUrl=www.amazon.com/s/x.x
(I took out the http: part at the beginning so that it doesn't turn into a link.)
This never happened with my previous modem (Motorola SB515x1), and my parents don't have this problem with their modem.
I never had this problem with my old modem. Something's different in the system since yesterday. And the only change is the new modem.
Can I just go to the local office and try to get a new modem? Or do I have to call Mediacom to have them ship one out? I can't just hook my old modem back up, because it's DOCSIS2 and I need DOCSIS 3 for the Xtream package I had hooked up yesterday. If I'm going to rent a modem, I need one that works properly.
