[IL] Download speeds are consistently 1/5 to 1/3 of the advertised speed

I'm hoping someone can help me solve my ridiculous internet speed issues before all of my hair is gone. I have Mediacom internet service and over the past two months I've been having serious speed issues. I used to have their 50 Mbps package, rented a modem from them, and used my own wireless router. Speeds and reliability weren't always great, but not bad enough to get upset about. I decided to buy my own modem to save money and at the same time I upgraded to a higher speed, their 150Mbps package. I went with the Arris (Motorola) SBG6580 modem/router combo. The issues were apparent right away (I'm not getting into details now because this is no longer my modem). Mediacom sent out three techs. The first appointment checked my components and found the signal to be weak at the Mediacom entrance point. So they set another tech out to fix the signal where their service enters my area. Afterwards I continued to have the same issue. So the third tech came and right away pointed to my modem to be the issue without testing anything. He said the Surfboard combos (my SBG6580) are nothing but junk. I went out and purchased a different standalone modem. Its a Zoom DOCSIS 3.0, model 5345 series 1112. This is my current modem. I also put back in place my router which is a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router, model WNDR3800. With my current setup, I have never seen a speedtest better than 87Mbps while directly wired into my modem. A good test might get me 50Mbps, but I actually average a little under 20Mbps. Having my router connected to the modem and then computer wired to the router gets about the same results but have never seen the 80Mbps speed. I also have an issue with consistency. Back-to-back tests can result in completely different speeds. Just tonight I tested three straight times on speedtest.net using the same server: 68Mbps -> 31Mbps -> 15Mbps. Wireless has the same issues only a bit worse. Let me know if you want any wireless stats to help. At this point, whenever I call Mediacom they are unable to help or explain the situation. They only try to send out another tech. Honestly, I turn them down at this point. I can't keep taking days off work to be at home waiting for a tech to come make zero difference. My general device connections are as follows.. Wireless: 4 mobile devices, three computers. Wired: DirecTV box, Raspberry Pi, Xbox. I generally notice sluggish performance while wirelessly using my computer, but always go test hard wired after limiting the other devices connected. I am going crazy over this. I can't even get the 50Mbps I used to get with Mediacom! I really need some help. Let me know what info you want and I'll get it for you. Let me know what steps to take for testing and I'll do it.
