I've been having some trouble with the internet this evening in Mansfield, IL.
I noticed it a little after 7pm. Websites were just being sluggish. I ran a speedtest and it showed 120-130 Mbps download (upload was normal). I normally have very stable service and download tests return 150-160Mbps at all hours.
So I figured I might as well hook up the Cisco DPC3216 I got recently and see if 16 channels would help anything. It got worse. The DPC3216 was only connecting on 5 downstream channels and the internet became almost unusable. The wife remarked that it reminded her of dial-up what with the loading bars and pages populating images one-by-one. I power cycled the modem several times to no avail. So I left it while we ate dinner to come back to it later.
So later came and I decided to go back to an 8x4 DPC3010. I moved the DPC3216 to another cable outlet so that I could put the DPC3010 in the usual spot but when I powered up the DPC3216 and checked it again it was connecting on 8 channels and the internet was acting relatively normally. I had been wondering if the DPC3216 could be faulty but there it was, apparently working just fine.
I ran some speed tests with the DPC3216 and received comparatively poor download speeds, however web pages were responsive and the internet was otherwise working acceptably well. I switched service over to the DPC3010 anyway just to be safe and ran the same speed tests again. I received similar results on the DPC3010 - depressed and erratic download speeds but otherwise functional service.
So at this point I'm guessing that the major issue that was causing the initial sluggishness was addressed during dinner but there remains the less dire issue of depressed download speeds.
Also, I'm guessing that my area does not have 16 download channels available. Would Chad or Bainch be able to verify that this is the case? And for extra points, is there any timeline for when the additional channels might be placed into service in my area?
The attached pictures are of the status page of the DPC3216 right before I switched service - so it was working relatively properly at this point (I unfortunately did not make a screenshot of the status page when it was connecting to only 5 channels), the speedtest I ran after getting back on the DPC3010 (you can see the download speed was not consistent which is abnormal for my service), and my router status page which gives an overview of the timeline of events.
