on jan 2nd we lost service do to an "act of nature" to day it came back up, figured it post here about some things ive learned over the last 15 days. 1st, that your comercials about satelite services are total..... heh, "hype" as my neighbors (who interestingly enough all have direct or dish) had there "service" back up when the power came back on, so while they had tv with locals i had silence. and my thoughts. 2nd, about those thoughts, i gotta say the things ive thought about your phone system would make hannibal run in terror. i had no idea it was possible to make a computer voice sound so damn condesending i see an outage has been reported in your area, keep in mind our agents will have no further information, now, before we hang up, is there any thing else i can help you with? why yes you arrogant little twit, you could offer a bill credit for the prepaid service your not providing, like say a month for each week, oh but wait, that wont happen unless i call and beg like a little (........) so you can act like your doing me a favor right? 3rd, i especially loved logging in to my email to see several emails from mediacom about the outage, some very informative ones. for example. Free Community WiFi Locations: Mediacom is aware that many members of the community have no communications services as a result of this storm. To assist the community, we have set up temporary WiFi access points for community members to use for free emphasis mine, how nice of you to inform me via email that i cant access because your service was down that i could access free wifi to access the email to tell me about the free wifi :uhh: i mean its not like this could have been added to the phone systems message for my area like the message about "we are experiencing extremely high call valume from your area....." message that changed over at 8am every morning, or the "mediacom preforms regular maintenance...." that switched over at midnight... oh, and just for future reference, you might want to pick up a bus map next time around, 1 of the locals was not accessible via bus (out in the middle of the county, really?) and the other 2 where at least 2 buses from the edges of town, you know, where the po folk who are less likely to have cellular data live because cities hate to see them let alone acknowledge low rent sections exist (gasp, po people, the horror!!) want proof of that? next time set up one of those hot spots down at the bus station, then its just one bus ride (1 hour vs 2 hours in each direction in this city, with the exception of 1 route) 4th, i learned that with out tv you can find lots of things that need cleaning, you learn that NPR actually has ads they just call them "underwriters", you learn that when you get desperate enough after having your 74 year old father complain to you constantly on how you need to cancel mediacom and get satelite you learn some pretty damn creative ways to set up a table top antenna that you could never get working before, you learn that no, you really dont need ~$50/basic cable tv to get a dozen channels, you learn that you could in fact get by with cellular data for the basics (bill pay for example) and probably save $100/mo hmm, things to consider going forward i suppose.
