I just upgraded from Ultra 200 to gig service yesterday. So far speed is nowhere near a 1 Gig. Tech that came out said it was his 1st gig install, and also mentioned that I would not get to gig speeds unless I was running Ubunto linux. (cause everbody runs linux these days in their house;) The modem had arrived the day before install and I decided to call in and get it activated. The modem was active when tech arrived next day and getting full ultra 200/20 speed. Tech went to tap and did his thing and then to side of the house . He connected a tablet to modem and was getting regular u200 speed and said modem wasn't provisioned for gig service so had to call in to get it provisioned. A couple of minutes passed and modem reset. Tech connected his tablet again and said he was not getting very high speed and asked if I had a wired computer, which I do. He ran several speed test both on mediacom speedtest site and the one he said he preferred http://beta.speedtest.net/. He also ran through router(R7000) and direct from modem (tc440). Same result , averaging between 475-490 Mbps dl and kick ass upload of 60-70 Mbps. Now the tech said my line was good and that there wasn't much else to do on his part. He did say he didn't have a gig trap so he would have to put in to have some body come back to trap my line. I'm a patient guy so I know being first can have it growing pains. I have an IM to MediacoChad to see what he can do, so going to give it a couple of day to see if they can get me closer to 1 gig and if not then I'll just go back to ultra200 until they work out the kinks. pros- ping dropped from 30-40 MS on 200 service to single digits on 1 gig service cons- 1-not getting anywhere near 1 gig speed so far 2-modem is freaking bright white 3- train techs to stop with that ubunto linux BS please.
