I've had Mediacom since 2012, and have been happy so far with the service... Billing/Accounting is another story. After several billing problems arose because of a mislabeled modem I had purchased, mediacom finally sent me a replacement to swap out. Again, the replacement modem (TC8503C) was replacing one that I had already purchased from them back in 2015, so I own it. When I initially got it, the modem was base lined, and I had no problems logging in, disabling WIFI, putting it into gateway mode, etc. My husband neglected to inform me that he setup paperless billing, so the bill didn't get paid for 2 months, so mediacom throttled my connection. I dropped in to chat with tech support, and found out the bill hadn't been paid, paid it and they reactivated the modem. I immediately noticed a certificate error that occurred when I went to login to a web app I host locally but is reverse proxies through a domain I own. I check my DDNS settings on my router, and realized that IP address of the WAN was a local IP address, and not the ip address of my gateway. I tried logging into my modem, typing the usual ip address, and realized my modem was no longer base lined and I was being redirected to homewifi.mediacomcable.com. I immediately called tech support who initially told me the modem was base lined and couldn't explain why it was redirecting me. They finally realized that it was not and after about 45 minutes of them trying something, having me reset it, and it still routing me to the mediacom site, they decided they didn't know exactly what to do and it needed to be escalated.
My question being, does anyone have any history dealing with this issue, what did they get done and how long did it take? Also, does anybody know where I can get a hold of a generic firmware for the TC8503, or should I just throw it on ebay and get a different modem all together to prevent this from happening again? I have great connectivity, 500/30 flat with every speedtest with minimal downtime for $60 a month is pretty good for this area. Any suggestions?
