I've noticed the last day or 2 I am getting about 30%-50% of my normal speed (200 megabits/sec and usually a little higher). I did a factory reset on the modem (netgear cm1000) to get the CMTS to put me on a new channel, in case of congestion) and it did put me on a new channels and my speeds went from about 5 megabits to 30 megabits. I am running a consistent 60-70 megabits now and signals look good. Other troubleshooting I did was shutting everything down disconnecting coax then reconnecting it and then hardwiring modem direct to my gaming PC, this didn't yield any difference in speed. I just didn't know if anyone else had noticed this. I ran speed tests from Fast, dslreports, Mediacom, Ookla. They have been run on multiple devices both wired and wireless (just trying to make sure it wasn't a device, I know wireless isn't the way to go with speed tests). My download seems to be the only affected metric, upload works fine, download starts strong-ish but continually falls or falls and plateaus during test (never reaching higher, usually, than 100 megabits. Signals look good, uncorrected errors look good, I am kind of stumped unless this is literally congestion at this point, which I haven't ruled out. I live in Johnston, IA. Let me be clear, if this is congestion, I am not complaining about that, but it would be nice if Mediacom would have shot us an email saying, hey we are having congestion in some areas so be aware your speeds may drop a bit.
