tldr: I canceled mediacom last year because it was absurdly slow on an Ultra50 plan, trying to open a new account now that the mediacom issue was fixed, and I'm told that I no longer have my 90-day money back guarantee, for LIFE. This is especially important for entering 2-year contracts like the one I was looking at.
I had mediacom last year starting in late summer in a Coralville apartment. It initially worked AMAZING, I had Ultra50 and it would stay maxed constantly. after a few weeks the speed became very unreliable and almost impossible to push above 20 mbits. At its worst it was impossible to push it over 10 or even 5.
I had a tech out to my apartment at least five times within a couple months. But it was a very weird situation because the dude was a 3rd party. He said "i'll come back tomorrow" and came back several times to do some things including stringing a cable out my window from my modem directly to the box outside the apartment complex. Since I think there were only one or two official appointments, Mediacom is denying that I had sufficient reason to cancel my internet. "there were no other cancellations at that time" was the line I was fed. Maybe they would have denied me even if I had 10 official appointments, I don't know.
It was apparently a known issue, the local office informed me of this when I took my modem in after I canceled! I called a friend of mine on the north side of Iowa City that was having the exact same issue for the same amount of time, and he said it had just been fixed also.
Very disappointed. I'm going to try to call again later tonight but I'm not feeling optimistic. Ideally I'd do the 20/30 (what the heck does that mean?) Prime Plus w/ a 2-year contract to get $39.99 for the first year and $49.99 for the second year.
