Hi all
I currently live in Ames and have been considering switching my internet to Mediacom. The switch would mostly be to get a better value, since their service would give me higher speeds and a lower monthly bill than my current provider (CenturyLink).
I am, however, very satisfied with the quality of service I get from Century Link. I am a frequent internet user, typically several hours per day in the evening, and have never had any noticeable disconnects or slow speeds. Consistent service is a big issue for me, since I spend a lot of my free time at home using the internet in some capacity (whether it be gaming, or other online activities).
I have heard mixed to negative reviews on this subject from Mediacom users I know in Ames. One particular person I know even switched to CenturyLink because of frequent, random, service problems he was experiencing that went unresolved. Is this problem city-wide, or just in particular parts of town? All the complaints I've heard against Mediacom come from people living on the west side. I live on the other end of town, by the east Hy-vee (away from most of the students); I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not, though. I can live with the occasional slow speeds, but not a complete drop in service.
Yes I've done the whole "I'm gonna cancel, gimme your introductory rate again" thing a couple times with CenturyLink, but I want this time around to be "I mean it, match Mediacom's price or I'm switching to them tomorrow."
