Yesterday, after the tech left, having replaced my outside connectors and splitter, upon re-scanning the digital TV, I found that I not only had the WEIQ 42-1 APT Main (PBS) channel, but one of the sub-channels called APT World.
(See http://www.aptv.org/Schedule/schedulenow.php to see the three channels content, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabama_Public_Television for how they are multiplexed.)
But, on the analog TV, connected to a DTA, the channel 8 that had always gotten the main ch 42 PBS content now gets either the APT Create or APT World sub-channels, but not the APT Main content PBS channel. So it seems to me that the DTA or some level above is not decoding the signal properly.
I called support, and got a rep in India who assured me that I couldn't be seeing the "@create" in the lower right of my TV as Mediacom only provides one APT/PBS channel in my area's lineup (36541). I asked how to get the PBS content, and he said that is all they provide, so I should be getting it. I asked to bump the question to engineering, and he assured me that there is no engineering department, which I do believe. He agreed to send a tech out to look at it, which won't help, as a tech looking at my DTA is not going to be able to do very much.
People may remember that over the years the PBS channel would disappear and wander around the digital TV, connect directly to the cable, so I've gotten the technical details from them about some of the issues.
Is there a way to get a real solution to this problem?
The DTA is under Mediacom's control, not mine.
