Modem Levels

Yeah generic title. Anyway, I have been borderline with signal (upstream 48-50) unless I hook up to my drop amp, Electroline EDA-FT8300, 0 return loss, docsis 3.0 approved etc. and that drops upstream levels to 45 -46 but adds a tiny bit of noise. I don't like to leave it hooked up this way because I have always heard people say don't do that. Now the signal is getting worse, up to 55 and then it won't connect. large pings (over 100) and having advertised speeds then slowing dropping off to 4-5 mega bits until I reboot modem (usually a day or 2 and having it hooked to amp doesn't fix this). My normal hookup is drop to 2 way splitter (recently replaced) one side modem the other side is everything else. I have also replaced the barrel connectors at the pole where it connects to underground drop and where underground drop meets house. House is about 5 years old and uses all home runs with rg6. Modem is a new (october) sb6141. I started having this problem when I went from the 12 mega bit tier to the 50 mega bit tier. My wife is about ready to kill me and then mediacom. I don't think it is a utilization issue because I get advertised speeds as soon as I reboot. Any ideas?
