My name is Seth, I live in Starkville, Mississippi. My wife and I moved here about a year ago and signed up for what was at the time Metrocast "high speed internet." About 6 months later I received a notification informing me that the local Metrocast service was bought by a company called "Maxxsouth." I'm assuming that they are just a local branch of the Mediacom company seeing as how when I run a speed test that's the name that shows up. It has been the worst experience with and ISP I've ever had. That's saying a lot seeing as how I previously lived in Nashville and had AT&T internet. I pay about 80 bucks a month for the highest tier package of "high speed internet" which promises speeds up to 55Mbps DL and 5 Mbps UL. I rarely get even half of my DL speed. On a good day it ranges from 7-15 at the very most. Recently my UL speed has actually gotten a bit better from around 1.5 Mbps to now around 3-4.5. I have called "technicians" to my house numerous times all to no avail. Usually they just come out, run some speed tests, scratch their head and say something to the effect of "we'll be in touch." Mind when they run said speed tests, it's always through speedtest.net and pinging the local server at the university. I ran a continuous string of speed tests through testmy.net the other day for about 22 hours. My results are as follows: http://testmy.net/quickstats/sjseamon Needless to say these results are abysmal considering how much I pay a month for internet. A representative even called me on the phone the other day, inquiring about my most recent "tech" visit. I informed him that my speeds were simply not acceptable, yet again, and just because the "tech" runs some speed tests and pings the local server that it's not representative of my actual real world speeds. He offered me a sorry excuse in the form of: "well we can't control what goes beyond our network." I'm not the only one who has this problem in my area. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. I can provide further information regarding my issue upon request if need be. I just want what I pay for.
