[IA] More channels, lower speeds, other issues

We have been having issues the last 7-10 days with both internet and cable TV. We have lost internet a couple of times but the main issue is very poor speeds. We have Prime but I am seeing as low as 1 Mbps and typically more like 2-5 Mbps (tested in the morning and late evenings; same result wireless or wired). We have also noticed pixelated TV signal and complete loss last night (although I gather this was due to a widespread outage). Nothing has changed in our network but I notice that my modem is now showing 8 downstream channels rather than the 4 channels that were available two years ago when the modem was installed. The power levels for these channels also appear to vary day to day (from maybe 2 dBmV to -5 dBmV; SNR varies accordingly). Our modem is a Thomson DHG574 and shows the firmware is from 2011 (DHG57X-A7.01.22-110518-F-1FF.bin). I wonder if that could be the problem (changing network parameters but no change to the firmware)? The modem log is filled with lots of time out errors (T3, T4 errors). I called Mediacom support and asked if they could update the firmware remotely and they said they could not. That doesn't sound right to me but oh well. Their only recourse was a tech visit...in a week! Oh yeah, and the time reported by the modem is always off by an hour. Anyway, anybody have any insight here? I can't buy a new modem myself as we have telephone service.
