Hello I need help right now cause this is starting to drive me insane.
I got Mediacom less than a month ago once I moved into my new apartment in Ames, IA. The guy setup with the default modem, whatever the XTREAM modem is (Model UBC1301). I was getting SUPER unstable internet connection after the guy set it up and left (figures). It would cut out for minutes at a time then come back, at the end of that night it was completely out and would not come back up. So I had to call for a tech and wait for them to come out and fix it. After the tech replaced some wiring, connectors, and other things in the apartment and some box outside, it seemed to be ok, so I let him leave. After a couple hours, my internet starts dropping out and coming back in again, admittedly better, only every few hours and 10 times+ during peak hours. This is still NOT acceptable at all at genuinely makes me angry. On top of that, my upload speed is 1 Mbps (I pay for 200/20), makes it very hard to play online games. Also, I apparently have "high buffer bloat" according to dslreports' speedtest, I have no idea what that means but it sounds bad. See image https://i.imgur.com/TD4Y9qK.png
I've figured out a few things that make the drops occur less frequently. If I connect to the 5 GHz wifi channel, internet will start cutting out every 10 minutes. Same with an ethernet connection. However, if I connect to the 2.4 GHz wifi channel, it goes out less frequently, maybe every 6 hours off peak times and still super frequently during peak times. So I've connected all my devices via that channel. I don't know what else I can do to help my connection since the tech fixed all the physical things here. My friends report similar issues in their apartments and they live on the opposite side of town. It could possibly be the modem, but people with similar issues say that replacing the modem doesn't do anything. I also can't get into the WiFi Settings panel for my modem, its locked for some reason.
I need something to be done here, it honestly has been making me depressed because I can't play video games with my friends or get my schoolwork done without my internet going out. I just want to relax after a long day of school and work and instead I'm welcomed by nonstop dropping out of my wifi connection its ridiculous. If your electricity went out randomly throughout the day multiple times a day for 10 minutes+, that would be making news somewhere. Utilities need to work, I'm paying $70+ for my internet a month, its unacceptable. Please help. My internet literally has gone down twice while typing this out.
