Mediacom fiasco

I’ve had Mediacom years ago and I went to order again at a new address. Yesterday I received the internet modem and had an appointment tomorrow. Today I got a call from some fraud or DM department telling me they cancelled my appointment. After 45 minutes on the phone they still did not have an answer as to why and I finally told them to call me back I don’t have time for this during the day while at work. They finally called back and said the address is not allowed for internet and I asked why and they said I was associated with the previous tenant. They gave me a name and I didn’t have a clue. Are they allowed to give me someone’s name? I would think there would be privacy laws against that and they then told me that my name was on that account. I said no I had an account about 3-4 years ago and haven’t since. What in the world is going on with this company? Is this what they do to new customers? There’s a new company Metronet that I have received a flyer for and I’m going to look into that. I currently have DSL but would like higher speeds since I now have YouTube TV. I know I am new here but this is absolutely ridiculous and I have to believe that Mediacom is breaking some sort of law in what they have told me.
