Mediacom 200Mbps (up to 270 Mbps actual) 7 feet coax from house penetration Amphenol IPA2008DSL2-RSVFA amplifier/splitter - modem connected to passive port - two televisions connected to active ports (old set tops, no TIVO, no DVR) ARRIS SB6183 modem - two years old - Software Version D30CM-OSPREY-2.4.0.1-GA-02-NOSH ASUS RT-N66U router - the only two computers are connected directly by CAT5e No gaming, some sports streaming I have had a problem for a long time where my modem locks up or resets frequently due to high signal variations. Multiple truck rolls hasn't resolved. As the problem has dwelled, I have increased my data collection and understanding of broadband signals and I perceive the signal variations are caused by noise upstream of me created by human behavior. [att=1] This graph represents similar behavior as I saw over the summer - now in graph form. During lunch, dinner and after 9:00 p.m. I have internet again and the sweetest signal characteristics. This noise creating signal variability and my modem drop/locks can only be caused by human behavior. And upstream of me as the behavior doesn't mirror any activity in this house. [att=2] This graph represents a narrow time frame of signal variation (from what I could screen capture), and modem drops/locks, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on New Year's Day. A friendly walking of the neighborhood, the only activity I could discern was the use of two way radios during a family reunion 20 feet off the next pole upstream. (This neighbor is not on Mediacom network.) Given the patterns, I perceive I have at least two noise sources upstream. (The neighbor's children aren't on the two way radios all day from 9 to 5.) And planes aren't landing all this time at the small airport nearby. I perceive there is also an ingress noise source, or like. Also, I know that in this neighborhood not one of the unused ports on taps is terminated with 75 ohm terminators. And the neighbor who I do share the same pole described above does not have his POE block bonded to power box. Anyone have similar problems? And what is the fix? Send help, please.
