I recently changed my old buffalo tomato flashed router to the new apple AirPort Extreme. Finally I have at least gigabit Ethernet between some of my devices and hd can now easily stream 1080p content and send/receive data much much faster between various devices.
However I still have the same Motorola sb5101 modem I bought years and years ago. It's been a workhorse but it is rated docsis2. I'm wondering if I should finally upgrade to the sb6141 that's available at best buy. I know it won't magically increase my speeds but if it speeds it up a bit and makes it more stable especially during peak hours perhaps that alone is worth it.
Below are the results of speedtestx I ran on my ipad air. Note that I did have a YouTube vid paused on my tv when I ran the test.
Server: Chicago, IL
Download: 26.47 Mbps
Upload: 2.06 Mbps
Ping Time: 67 ms
Connection Type: WIFI
If it is worth it then I'll pick one up tomorrow otherwise I'm eying a roku 3 for the same price. Thanks.
